A jewel in the Peak District, Buxton sits high in the Pennine range of hills that reach down through England from the Scottish Border. A Spa town it attracted the titled, the famous and is still today a magnet for tourists.

There is a quiet B road that runs south from the Highland town of Aviemore and threads it’s way through the thickly wooded hills and soon leaves the clamour of the town behind. It’s a twisting, winding route with little traffic, a quiet alternative to the heavy roar of the A9 which it parallels.

I have a branch of the Aldi discount store nearby where I live at Vulcan Village on the outskirts of Earlestown and Newton le Willows.
