A jewel in the Peak District, Buxton sits high in the Pennine range of hills that reach down through England from the Scottish Border. A Spa town it attracted the titled, the famous and is still today a magnet for tourists.

It all started so well. The plan ( make plans and the gods laugh ) was to be a gentle train ride down through Chester, Shrewsbury, the Welsh border and into Hereford. I had hazy, lazy Sunday on my hands and the weather, for once, didn’t have a sulky face on it. Not wanting to waste sunshine or fresh air I set my sights on Chester.
