At last the year is slowly feeling like it’s getting into gear. The little hints are there, daylight is no longer packing its bags for the day mid afternoon and plants and the like are beginning to shuffle off the winter inertia and jiggle back into life. The queue at my bird table is livening up as well and I’ve already had a couple of adventurous bees bumbling around the few spring flowers that have made the brave decision to open.
Well the year is rolling by and picking up speed a little as the drudgery of the Winter months start to fade and sunshine becomes a little less of a stranger.
Easy travelling is still a little way off as yet, so I’ve taken another trip in my photographical time machine to revisit 2007 and Whitby on the North Yorkshire coast.
I’m sat in my little spare bedroom of an office watching the rain hammer down outside, which is I suppose preferable to being out in it. Even without the current sadnesses and difficulties, this is a part of the year that always drags for me. Daylight is still on the scarce side and the weather is as unpredictable as a half starved Bugblatter Beast from Traal ( yes it’s the kind of weather where a Hoopy Frood needs to know where his towel is #HGTTG )
Autumn has packed it’s bags. The showy reds and golds of the trees are all but gone for another year to be replaced by the cool, grey sternness of another winter.
I’ve written about the Sankey Valley before, the canal and the history that’s threaded along it. It’s an easy walk for me to get to it and the web of paths and access points means that there is always a variety of walking that you can do.
