January is doing what it does best, being cold and wet. At least that’s what it’s doing here on my doorstep. Time is not being wasted though, planning is being done for when Mr. Bluesky returns.

The new year is beginning to pick up speed. Still one or two things hanging around from its predecessor but that’s nothing new.

The snow falls gently on to Newton le Willows railway station. A train to Chester is due. Right, Christmas is now jingling away into the distance leaving behind a trail of gifts, wrapping paper, empty glasses and slightly mangled decorations blowing in the breeze. On my travels, I’m heading down to Shrewsbury to catch up with a friend before Christmas takes over and the roast dinner/ chocolate/ drink event horizon hits. This journey down Through the Welsh borderlands is a favourite of mine, each season adds a different flavour. Today’s is a light dusting of snow and a crisp, sharp light cutting through an idling mist.
