LYTHAM. Into the Light?

A cool, dark afternoon on Lytham Promenade. Just time to walk the dogs before the daylight runs away to hide.

Slowly, oh so slowly, Winter is beginning to loose its grip on the world around us, though it’s still going dark about five pm in these parts.

Bored with staring out of the window watching rain clouds scuttling across the skies, a few days back I decided to get out for a Sunday lunch to a favourite spot of mine. I headed out to the Lancashire coast and Lytham, oddly I hadn’t been there since well before Christmas, didn’t realise it has been quite that long.

The weather meant well but sort of lost interest as the day went along. I followed my usual route, part motorway then swinging off past the former Preston Docks, note to self, I’ve still not managed to fit in a visit to the Ribble Steam Railway as yet, it’s on my To Do list for this year.

Arriving in Lytham is was a park up and a brisk walk across to the Lytham Kitchen. I’ve been enjoying the food here for years, the quality never falters. It was a cold day so I went for the roast beef, I don’t want to run the risk of getting too thin. After that as the weather had gotten even grumpier I had ice cream to follow. I worked through all of this in one of my favourite seats in the front window, watching the world go by as the weather wheel spun through sun, to overcast, to blustery and back to sun again.

The Lytham Kitchen, my window on the world with a lovely lunch. The roast beef melted in the mouth, with the added kick of the horseradish, the Yorkshire pud was a crispy on top, chewy in the bottom delight. The roast potatoes cracked open to a fluffy inside and the veggies made me feel good and healthy. Happy fat rat time.
Well it was still cold outside so I thought I would equalise the inner and outer temperatures with some salted caramel ice cream. And why not? there was no rush.

To ease my conscience I took a brisk, but short walk around the town before heading back home. Not the brightest of days out but it broke for a while the cycle of my wallpaper and me spending the day staring at one another.

Out odf the Kitchen and more temptation, which I resisted this time. It will be a different story when the warmer weather comes around.
Real, actual chocolate oranges, not sure just how chocolately they are but it’s the thought that counts.
Aound and into the Lowther Gardens, a little short of life on the day, bring on the sunshine, bring out the people.
The Lowther Gardens statue remembering Bobby Ball, one half of the Cannon & Ball comedy duo, sculpted by Ben Twiston Davies, stands by the Lowther Theatre.
A last blow along the Promenade fro some fresh, if rather cold air. Then back in the car, home to my lonely wallpaper.
