SOUTHPORT A Stroll After Fish & Chips.

Right, another post filleted out of the pictures currently littering the hard drives and USB sticks.

2025 is waiting by the exit door with increasing patience, plus the weather is not on its best behaviour so travelling has been influenced by grabbing a likely looking couple of hours by the neck and heading off out.

A couple of Saturdays ago I headed off to Southport to grab a blast or two of fresh but cold sea air. Arriving at the resort’s railway station on Chapel Street I headed up to The Swan Restaurant on Stanley Street for some proper seaside fish and chips. Very good they were too, straight forward and tasty.

A big plateful at the Swan Restaurant on Stanley Street.

The weather was not for getting enthusiastic so it was a walk about shower dodging, watching the sky darken itself into evening before heading back to the station for the return journey.

A walk along Lord Street, one of the main shopping areas brought me to The Wayfarers Arcade, an example of elegance form a bygone age.
The tree is already up, Christmas must be a commin’ !
Back out onto Lord Street and further along there were hints of a summer to come (hopefully!) on the corner with Coronation Walk, a route up to the Promenade.
All is quiet at the Village, resting through the Winter, waiting fr the Spring.
Get the date inyour diary, it will be here before you realise it!
I walked further along the Promenade to reach the Pier which at the moment is sadley closed, it is supposed to be under restoration. Fingers crossed on that one, it is a marvellous walk out across the waters and would be a sad loss to the town. This area is the rendesvous point for the Bikers out there, meetings of machines and Bikers, the craik, the mechanical comparisons etc.
Open for business on a windy day, would have been a refreshing ride!
Somewhere to shelter on inhospitable days like this was.
Walking back around along Lord Street on my way to the station I decided I had earned a coffee and a cake before catching the train. This is my hipster impression.
Chapel Street and the railway station as the evening takes hold. I can’t say that I’m a great fan of the overbearing concrete block architecture of the station frontage. Luckily the overall roof survives inside. It was train home, a quick drink then the bus, heating on, chill out time.

  1. The Swan chippie is a Southport institution that’s been going for decades. Good choice!
