ORMSKIRK. A Bagel In The Sunshine.

Behold my bagel! bright and shiny in the windy sunshine.

I don’t know how you are but do you sometimes get a morning that simply won’t move out of neutral and get into gear? Breakfast is eaten, the dishes done and put away, a last cup of coffee gets slurped away and then………………….

I hate those sort of days, I had one recently and after grumbling around the house for an hour or so I decided to get out for a couple of hours and come back and try again. Luckily it was a Thursday which made destination choice a bit easier, I took myself off to Ormskirk for the market. It’s held on two days, Thursday and Saturday, Saturday’s being the larger of the two.

It’s an easy and fairly trouble free bus journey for me so that made a pleasant change from being in the house growling at my wallpaper.

The weather was bright but what you might call “fresh” with a mischievous wind that was enjoying throwing its weight around, think boisterous three year old. Anyway first job on arrival was to sort out something to eat and after a walk about I decided on the Bagel Shop on Moor Street, one of the main streets forming the town centre.

I went for the salt beef with mustard and gherkin on a cheese and onion bagel. Delicious. There were tables on the street out front of the shop and luckily the wind was also taking a lunchtime break.

I washed the bagel down with a lovely cup of tea, had another walk around the town, trying to avoid the Charity shops with their enticing book choices and then made my way back home. I didn’t achieve much of note for the rest of the day but at least I reminded myself where I can get a good bagel in Ormskirk.

Aughton Street looking up to the clock tower in the centre of the town. It sits where the two main roads through the town cross. A place where people meet and gossip is exchanged like an illicit currency.

Burscough Street, like the middle of the town it’s pedestrianised which makes getting around the town a bit less life threatening. Plus you can have your fish and chips in the sunshine as the world goes by.
This is The Bagel Deli on Moor Street and yes I couldn’t decide which I prefered, lively colour or “artistic” mono, either or the salt beef bagel was a delight ( see above). Come to Ormskirk and you too and dine al fresco on Moor Street.
