WINDERMERE. A Cool Day By The Lake.

Bowness, The Ladies of the Lake.

The end of March approaches, the time when the clocks will spring forward and all will be warm and sunny. Well that’s the plan.

I took another trip up to the Lake District a couple of weekends back, I’m getting back into training for days out for when the good times return. Currently Winter has a less than friendly grip on things at the moment making the days a little bit on the short side with the evening coming in like a sly robber in the night.

As it says on my leetle waffer (life has a meaning there) I ejoyed an ice cream on my way down to Bowness. Can it ever get too cold to enjoy an ice cream?

Anyway I decided to chance things with a trip up to Windermere and the Lake. I travelled up on the train, it was a painless journey, the connections connected, not something you can always rely on. The railway station at Windermere sit’s cheek by jowl with a branch of Booths supermarkets, in fact it’s on the site of where the station used to be and it has a cafe. Perfect for a coffee and cake refresher before carrying on with the day.
The Queen of the Lake bobbing gently by the landing stage at Bowness, even though it was a day much on the “crisp” side there were plenty people out and about now the days are beginning to stretch and wake up.

The railway station is also the bus hub for the town but as the day was being kind I opted to walk down to the lake shore at Bowness, make the most of the sunshine while catching up with Windermere the town as it eases back into life after the Winter torpor. It’s a down hill walk to Bowness and the Lake, remember that when you’re thinking of walking back up, though there is a decent bus service to the railway station. Both Windermere and Bowness down by the Lake were busy, people were wanting to be OUT, Winter is straying close to overstaying its welcome, just a little bit.

Disembarking from a sail around the lake, I think I’ll let it warm up a bit more before I go a sailing shipmates.
Off Cockshott Point, a sail glows in the kiss of the evening sun.

I had a few hours there, taking in the ferries buzzing in and out, watching the passengers huddling up on the open decks convincing themselves that the day is warmer. Hopefully soon it will be.

Looking towards the Hawkshead Ferry at Ferry Nabb.

I started my journey back as the blue of the sky began its fade to black, I broke my journey at Lancaster for a warming drink at the lovely Tite & Locke bar by the stations platform 3. Then I finished my journey, all being well with my little corner of the world.

A welcome glass of Into The Void. Cheers.
