COLWYN BAY to LLANDUDNO. Play Misty For Me

Colwyn Bay. At the Good Taste Bistro, making the most of the sparse sunshine. Wrapped up against the cold obvs.

The days are inching longer with all the grace and elegance of a broken tooth being pulled.

That said it’s still not “enjoyable” travelling weather, some days may be brighter but someone is still pressing the OFF switch about 6 pm.

Anyway, as I’d see enough of the inside of my front door this week I decided to chance my luck with a train trip out along the North Wales coast to Colwyn Bay, I also added Llandudno to my itinerary just for the fun of it.

The train came on time and I was on my way. There was an odd changeover at Chester for some reason but I still made it to Colwyn Bay on time so no heartache there. It now was about lunchtime so the first objective was food and a chance to warm up. There’s a decent selection of places to eat so you wont starve in Colwyn Bay, this time I opted for a chippy, Freshmans on Railway Road.

My cod special, out of shot is a mug of tea and the traditional two slices of bread & butter. Very good it was too.
The Pier on a cold and misty day, I felt it called for a black and white image.
An alternative view of the Pier, the cold and the mist deadening the sound of the waves gentle assault on the shore.

That done and as it wasn’t a day for sitting and admiring the waves crashing on the shore opted to head on to Llandudno, a couple of stops up the line. The junction is as it say’s on the tin. Llandudno Junction where the route swings away towards the coast while the main line heads off to Bangor and ultimately Holyhead.

Leaving Llandudno Junction the railway run alongside the Afon Conwy, passing through the small town of Deganwy a haven now for those of a yatching persuasion.

Oddly it was a lot cooler along the prom here, more so than the seafront at Colwyn Bay. That said the town was busy, plenty people braving the less than friendly weather. The pier has now reopened after it’s argument with the various storms that had stomped their way across the UK these last few months.

The sweep of the Promenade at Llandudno, you could best describe the weather as ‘bracing’.
My dark and creamy pint of Osset Brewery’s Jet Stout enjoyed in Tapps Bar, tucked away on Madoc Street. My first visit but not my last.

By now the sunshine had given up the unequal struggle and was packing away its bucket and spade as the day faded into evening. I took a round about walk back to the station and called in at the Tapps Bar for a relaxing drink before heading back to the station. The train was on time, a q2uick ish change at Llandudno Junction passed easily and I was soon on the train back home. Perhaps not the best of weather to be beside the sea side but a decent dry run for when Mr. Blue Sky decides to come back.
