The travels, musings and thoughts of a man and his camera.

ON THE MOVE. Newton L.W. to Cardiff.

A bit of a photo dump sort of post, I’m on my way down to Cardiff to do some visiting. I’ m enjoying the comfort of the TfW (Transport for Wales) big train, proper coaches etc.

Newton le WILLOWS railway station in the still of the morning.

It was an early start and so far all has gone to plan. Only the one hitch, to be organised I pre-booked my Chester to Cardiff ticket, opting to collect on the day. All went well but at Chester the machine wouldn’t release my tickets. A brief moment of blue air panic but the ticket office opened up and the nice lady printed off. My tickets. Thanks nice lady,no thanks technology.

TfW nice big train,I sat in the buffet car for fat rat reasons.

So far the train and me are trundling down the Welsh borders where the mists of Autumnal fruitfulness gather around the trees.

Lurking shadows in the mist.
LUDLOW. The church tower pokes up into the clouds.

That’s the story so far.

Right, time to catch up, the journey down went without a hitch and I met up with my mate and fellow photographer The G-Man, first order of business was breakfast at a favourite spot, the cafe in the market Hall.

A very fine and filling breakfast in the Market Hall.

We took our time with it, the usual chat and catching up, then we launched ourselves on an unsuspecting Cardiff.

It’s a short walk from the Market Hall to Bute Park which nestles close up by the gothic extravaganza of the Castle.
The trees were gaudy in there autumnal finery and we had a day of crisp, sharp sunshine to enjoy them with.
Let there be gold with more gold layered over it.
Crocusses dotted their way through the grass, the leafless ones p[utting on their impudent show before winter muscles it’s way in.
Enough smells to keep any dog happy.

From Bute Park we decided to head out to Penarth, a pretty spot on the Bristol Channel only a few minutes train ride from the city centre. on the way we passed through the Edwardian Arcades that are a feature of the city centre.

Don’t ask me which Arcade this is, I can never remember which one is which, there’s a nest of them along the main street with some great indie shopping, including coffee shops and a camera shop, my idea of heaven basically. I came away with a lovely vintage camera lens that I didn’t know I needed until I saw it………
Penarth is a delight of a place, the pier reaching out into the Bristol Channel is a magnet for people out for a stroll. We dropped on a perfect evening, the sunlight dressing the place with those crisp shadows that appear just before the sunlight fades out for the day.
Compact as piers go but there’s more than enough to while away a few hours and relax.
And plenty of food to keep you going too.

So that was the day in Cardiff and Penarth, squeezed in before the clocks go back and everything becomes a bit greyer for while but this is the planning time, the organizing time for when the sun comes out and gets his hat on again.
