KENMORE. A Ruin In The Woods.

I like to travel up to Scotland whenever I can and for many years I would spend a fortnight touring around, basing myself just outside of Dunkeld. The town sits on the banks of the River Tay about twelve miles or so north of Perth. Since the widening and diverting of the A9 route to the north a few years back, the heavy traffic has somewhere else to go and […]

CHESTER. The Supertrees are Coming.

A couple of weeks ago, before the world ground to a halt, I made a trip out to Chester. It’s a regular -ish journey I make and as is the way with these things , new developments sort of creep up on me under the wire. For part of the route the railway runs alongside the Peak Forest Canal to Whaley Bridge, that makes it useful for a day walking the canal. Train out and […]

RIVINGTON. A Tower High On A Hill.

Up on a hill and visible for miles around is the Pigeon Tower. It stands at the highest point of the Terraced Gardens which were created out of the bare moorland by local businessman and philanthropist William Hesketh Lever, later Lord Levrhulme, founder of Lever Bros. Soap which later became part of the Unilever Empire. The Pigeon Tower is the most obvious of the many striking features of the Gardens. […]
