Recently I took a trip up to Newcastle and on the return I came back by my favourite through Alston and over the summit at Hartside and down into Melmerby and on to Penrith. The view from the top is spectacular, from the Lakes across the Solway Firth to Scotland. Here’s the route down from Hartside Summit. Not one of my usual posts, but I enjoy the area and the drive down so I thought I would share. Just for information, I don’t drive some sort of souped up monster speed machine, it’s a 23 year old Nissan Micra and the mobile fitted nicely into a slot on the dashboard.
From Hartside to Melmerby, Cumbria. A road you have to keep your wits about you.
