CHORLEY. Saying It With Flowers.

The view from a window as the Flower Show gets into its stride below.

It was the weekend of the annual flower show and naturally I hadn’t been since last year. Shows like this are the sort of events I really enjoy. Outdoors, demonstrations, plenty to see and hear, plenty fun to be had.

As ever the show was held in the grounds of Astley Park, just off the town centre and home to the impressive Astley Hall.

For once the British weather mostly behaved itself, a cause for celebration there straight away. The event wrapped itself around the hall and the walled garden beyond.

It was a great way to spend a few Saturday hours, though spread over three days the festival had opened on Friday, the day before.

Astley Hall stands as a backdrop to the action. It’s a plants flowers and food sort of foreground with the Hall a very interesting attraction in its own right.

Plenty flowers and plenty food to keep the day rolling along.
I treated myself to a lamb hotpot from the ever dependable local firm, Bees Country Kitchen. Fat Rat al fgresco time.
Live music Ska style by the Hall.
A display bed to inspire and mull over, select the ideas and carry them home in your mind’s eye.
In the big tent, fuchias to fancy en mass.

I’m not sure where you can get the seeds for the Mini from but it did make for an impressive display.
