Yes I know it’s January and a wet one at that but the days are beginning to drag a little. The fun and frolics of Christmas and New Year are back in their cardboard box in the attic and it’s now the long, slow trudge through the soggy beginning of the year towards the changing of the clocks and the days moving from short into long trousers.
I decided on a trip out, even without the rain and storms it’s still getting dark around the 5pm mark meaning a long journey would be a bit pointless, so I decided on the old standby of Chester by train. I used the Merseyrail route down the Wirral Peninsula to maximise the travel time on a nice warm train.
The first stop on arrival was something to eat. Now there’s a bakery shop a few strides away from the station, the Olawa Bake shop. I’ve been past it countless times but never been in. This time I did. It was a good choice and will feature on future visits.

Form there it was a walk into the city centre, bless the Chester Rows, you can walk sheltered from the rains and the worst of the winds and still see the hustle and bustle of the city going about its business.

It wasn’t the longest of visits, the weather had a mood on it and showered people regularly, so after a couple of hours of this it was time to head back to the railway station and head for home. It wasn’t the most in depth or exciting of journeys but I was out and about, keeping in practice for when Mr. Bluesky puts in a longer stay.
