A day of doing jobs today, one of which was collecting my new specs from Wigan.
That job done nice and easy, the clock had moved around to almost midday so I thought lunch in Lancashire’s pie capital was the order of the day. Plus while the day was bright and sunny it also had a cool edge to it. I took a wander, breaking in my new specs and weighed up the food options/choices.
As the opticians was near to the Grand Arcade shopping area I took a walk to one of the upper levels and noticed that at the Uptown Casino Diner had hotpot on as a special. Decision made, job done. I took my time over lunch, it was a decent serving and just what was needed as an antidote for the cool day.
From there I took a walk around the town, currently the town centre is undergoing redevelopment, something that always have some reservations about. No place should be frozen in time but there’s always a worry for me that more is thrown out than gained. The Galleries shopping centre is the largest area being worked on, along with the current market hall. Hard times for the businesses at this time of year, working to keep the customers a coming through the building works, disruption and general mess.
Good luck to them, which is best, a host of small independent businesses or fewer, larger chains.
