The travels, musings and thoughts of a man and his camera.

BOLTON. Food Glorious Food.

Well here in the UK, the August Bank Holiday has been upon us, you can tell that because the weather has been on the unfriendly side yet again. Nevertheless events have been held and people have been out and about, braving whatever rains down from the skies.

An event I had a taster of was the annual Bolton Food Festival ( see shat I did there?)

It’s always big frying pan time at the food festival, we’re in Bolton so it must be a pie Ella. I’ll let you think about that one.
The events stage and bar on the elegant curve of Le Mans Crescent. A popular venue for the catching up conversations as well as the music.

Spreading through the town centre the food fest is a riot of colours and edible temptations. Smells come at you from all sides, from the hefty kick of onions frying for the burgers, to the punch of garlic, strong enough to cause the pigeons fall out of the skies and make them walk the pavements in a daze, plus weaving in and out of this hefty cloud are the subtle hints of ginger, chilli and other exotic spices. The ones that tease the nose and make it send desperate messages to the stomach along with instructions to the feet to find that stall.

What flavour would you like to spill down the fron of your shirt?
Big Chefs make for big pizza, though leave the carrots off mine thanks.
Quick, grab a pastie to keep you going.
Victoria Square and the imposing town hall, a place to catch a breather between courses.

Then there’s the street acts, chefs on stilts, strolling bands and a giant chicken. I kid you not and I have photographic proof.

See , told you so. I wonder what size of egg cup you need?
You are in the North, we eat pies.
I’m lead to believe that monochrome macaroons have fewer calories, not sure if that’s right but it works for me.
Along Deansgate, a bar and a host of artisan foods. A drink, a wrap and just watch Bolton enjoying itself.

I enjoyed the day thoroughly and came home fatter than I went out and smelling of a most unusual aftershave, the sort of scent that makes you hungry and incites a bit of fridge raiding.

Pulling meat by the side of the town hall.
Wndy is just crazy fo you to try her street food.

Next years event has been noted, better start the diet now.

Time to dance some calories off.
