Right, so where were we? I’d just had a reviving coffee and cake and was ready to head out into the madness that is the Edinburgh Fringe.

My plan ( yes I do plan things, not too often though) was to head up along Lothian Road for starters and then continue south towards the suburb of Morningside. My plan was to take in as much of the city as I could before getting caught up in the Fringe Jamboree along the Royal Mile. It was a warm, dry day, great walking weather which made for an easy stroll heading south around the edge of the city.

I took in lunch (see above ) in the Salt Cafe somewhere I hadn’t been to in a while. For me the enjpoyment of these walks comes from is discovering new places to enjoy a coffee, cake or beer etc while watching the world go about its business. There’s also touching base with the old favourits places that have survived the recent upsets or heave a small sigh of regret for those that have sadly gone. I could justify a visit to Edinburgh just based on this walk alone, lined as it is with a fascinating selection of independant businesses, yes you will pass butchers, bakers possibly candlestick makers. As well as cafes and bars to suit almost every taste.
Slightly fatter I started the walk back into the city, this time through the Links and the Meadows.

So getting to here I knew that I was on the edge of where the fun and games would be starting. It was time to take a deep breath and enter the crush.
