I’m lucky in that I live within an easy striking distance of the English Lake District. It’s either a couple of hours or so in the car or a similar journey time by train to Windermere. Obviously it’s a popular destination which can make the roads busy so I have a preference for using the train. Not everyone’s cup of tea but it makes it worthwhile if I’m speeding along on the train and I pass traffic jams on the motorway’s or other roads.
Tucked away at the top of Morecambe Bay is the pretty coastal village of Arnside. If it’s a bit of peace and quiet you seek, some fresh air and exercise, with perhaps a restorative meal and a pint afterwards, then this is the sort of place you should head to
Up in the Lake District and a little less hectic than Lake Windermere is Derwentwater, hard by the town of Keswick. I was up there a while ago, back in the days before things went askew.
When I want a walk, a bit of fresh air and a beautiful view all rolled into one, Grange over Sands is one of the places I head to.
The place, Whitehaven on the Cumbrian coast. The date March 2009. I have a great liking for this stretch of the UK’s coastline.
