HESKIN. Playing With The Big Boys Toys.

The gentle power of a beautifully engineered traction engine.

June is a bustin’ out all over in the UK and we are having WARM weather! So to make the most of this delight at the weekend I took myself off to the Heskin Vintage Vehicle Rally.

The gentle art of tractor balancing.

This is an annual celebration of agriculture, motoring, heritage and of course big boys toys. These events are getting back into their stride after the unfortunate events of the last couple of years so it was an enjoyable experience to be out in the sunshine watching people indulging in their love of many things mechanical, be it cars, tractors, commercial vehicles or little engines that were really good at going putt putt.

I’d never would have thought that the US intelligence agency would have been interested in farming and tractors.
It’s quite relaxing watching these miniature marvels chugging away.
Like steam powered visitors from another planet.

Morris Dancing was also in evidence with the Stone The Crows troupe entertaining the crowds with dance and big sticks.

The arcane ritual of the Morris Dance.
Dancing with big sticks and black feathers.

A regular treat at any show is a big box of STUFF to rummage in. You might not need it now but who knows what the future holds.
There’s always someone hanging around.
Waiting for the big trucks to come into the arena.
Event timetable and big hats.
Watching can be exhausting work.
And there’s always the food to think about.
Always leave room for a doughnut, or perhaps two.
Useful advice.
Discussing the finer points of tractors etc.
School’s out!

Right, that was a wander around my visit to the Heskin Rally, space is already being held over for next years, so see you there.
